AI Room Design With a Shopping List: Paint, Lighting, Rug
RoomCalm's Room Plan turns a redesign of your own room into a list you can act on: every change in order, each piece named with a typical price range, the closest real paint matches and a lighting plan in lumens. It is $9 one-time and never renews. Your first redesign is free, so you see the room before you pay.
No sign-up to try. The plan unlocks from the result.

What a Room Plan looks like
The parts that depend only on the room, for a medium living room (about 180 sq ft), computed by the code the paid plan runs. Your pieces and paint come from your own redesign.
SAMPLE · MEDIUM LIVING ROOM
Lighting plan
~3,600 lumens ambient
Roughly 5 warm bulbs spread across at least 3 sources (a ceiling light plus lamps), all 2700–3000K, never mixed. Then layer task and accent light on top.
Task light: Add a dedicated reading light (a floor or table lamp ~600–800 lm) beside the main seat — ambient light alone is too flat to read by.
Designer rules for this room
- Rug big enough to anchor. The rug should slide 8–12" past the sides of the sofa, with the front legs of every seat resting on it.
- Sofa-to-coffee-table gap. Leave 14–18" between the sofa and coffee table — close enough to reach a cup, far enough for legs. The table itself reads best at about two-thirds the length of the sofa.
- Keep walkways clear. Main paths through the room want 36"; secondary gaps between pieces, 30". If a route feels tight in the render, pull a piece in.
Shopping list rows
Typical price bands at the Balanced budget setting.
- Area rug$80–$250 typical
- Floor lamp$45–$130 typical
- Linen curtains$40–$100 typical
- Cushions$30–$70 typical
Paint schedule
One line per surface (walls, trim, ceiling): name, brand, code, LRV and sheen. Matched to your redesign's colours, so there is no honest sample without your room.
How it compares
An interior designer or an e-design package
Per-room design fees run $450–$1,500 and a first consultation $50–$250, per HomeGuide; Havenly's Online Full e-design package lists at $199 for a room (both read 9 October 2026, sources in our interior designer cost guide). A designer brings judgement, sourcing and someone accountable: hire one for structural or multi-room work. For one room you restyle yourself, $9 covers the arithmetic.
Other AI design apps
Many stop at the picture; some link products for a room they invented. The Room Plan starts from your room, with price ranges rather than live prices.
Doing it yourself

The Room Plan — questions people ask
Can AI make a shopping list for my room design?
Yes. After RoomCalm redesigns a photo of your room, the Room Plan names every piece with a typical price range and a search link, totalled into an estimate a budget dial moves up or down. It is part of the $9 plan; the redesign is free to try first.
What is in the $9 Room Plan?
Every change in order, the shopping list with price ranges, the closest real paint matches (brand, code and LRV), a lighting plan in lumens and the designer rules for your room type, plus Fit Check, Studio and more redesigns.
Are the paint colours an exact match?
No. Each is the closest real paint to a colour your design uses. Screens and warm render light shift colour, so try a sample on your wall, morning and evening, before buying the tin.
Does the shopping list show real products and prices?
It names each piece as it appears in your redesign, with a typical price range and a search link; you pick the exact product. We don't see live prices or stock, so a range is the honest number.
Is it cheaper than an interior designer's e-design package?
Much cheaper, and it does less. Per-room design fees run $450–$1,500 (HomeGuide) and Havenly's Online Full e-design package is $199 a room (both read 9 October 2026). The Room Plan is $9. A designer adds judgement, sourcing and revisions.
Do I have to pay before I see my redesign?
No. Your first redesign is free with no sign-up and no card. You sign in only if you buy the plan.
See the room first, then decide on the plan
Your first redesign is free. The plan is $9 one-time, with a 14-day money-back guarantee.
